Baseball Scholarship Awarded to Three Athletes
Three Albertans granted scholarships by the E.I.B.F.
Three scholarships, each for $2,000.00 were presented by The Edmonton International Baseball Foundation last April, during a Press Conference at Telus Field.
The Ron Hayter Bursary was awarded to Travis Lindquist. Of Elk Point, and Ryan Campbell of Cold Lake.
Pamela Fox, of Sherwood Park, received the Millie Warwick McAuley/Betty Carveth Dunn Scholarship.
The scholarships are awarded annually to players in Baseball Alberta who demonstrate outstanding baseball skills consistent with academic achievement and community involvement.
Mr. Lindquist, completing his first term in Engineering at the University of Alberta, was an outstanding outfielder with the Elk Point Sox Midget team, coached by Douglas Bassett.
Mr. Campbell is enrolled in the prestigious Honours Business Administration Program at the University of Western Ontario. In 2005, he participated with the Cold Lake Midget Cardinals and also with the Upper Canada College Varsity Baseball team, where he was named Most Valuable Player.
Ms. Fox, described as “an exceptional student, gifted athlete and excellent leader”, participated in 2005 at the inaugural Canadian Women’s Baseball Invitational Championship in Mississauga, Ontario. A graduate of New Serapta Community High School, Pam is currently in her second year at the University of Alberta.
Her scholarship was presented by Millie Warwick McAuley and Betty Carveth Dunn, who starred in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during the Second World War. They were Special Ambassadors during the first-ever World Cup of Women’s Baseball in Edmonton in 2004.
The E.I.B.F., established in 1979, is a not-for-profit organization which has organized six international baseball events in the city and has been awarded the 2008 World Junior AAA Championship.
